Vitamins vs. Whole Foods

Before heading to work each day, most Americans down a vitamin pill, now an integral part of the American diet. Yet, most people really know very little about the vitamins they are taking, they merely assume that the ingedients contained within are the answer to a better diet and their health.

So what exactly are vitamins and why are they such a necessary part of the American diet? Vitamins are derivatives from foods designed to make up for lack of nutrition that we receive from our daily diets these days. People "need" vitamins because the food they are eating is lacking basic nutrition and the true vitamins that in the past were contained within a regular diet.
